Sherry Patterson is a vegetable farmer who knows a thing or two about season extension. Over the past 14 years, Sherry has built her business, Chick-a-Biddy Acres into a well-known market garden and CSA, which now also includes free range chicken, eggs and pork.

Since 2012, Sherry and her new business partner, Josh Blank, have constructed three passively heated hoop houses. With these, they’re closer than ever before to achieving their goal of providing healthy, happy food to their community twelve months of the year. Now, in addition to supplying vegetables for their 100+ member CSA from June to October, they can also be found at the Peterborough Farmers’ Market from November to May with several greenhouse and winter-hardy field crops produced during the “off-season”.

If you’re a vegetable farmer looking to take full advantage of the still-adequate daylight hours of October and November, or would like to get an early start on the season in February and March, then this farm tour is meant for you!

Pre-registration is required as space is limited, so get your name on the list early! Admission is $25 for individuals and $35 for pairs. Head on over to Survey Monkey to fill out a quick registration questionnaire. For more information, contact Jay Adam of Farms at Work: jay@farmsatwork.ca | 705-743-7671.
